Would you trade Tokyo for London or Rome?

Trading Tokyo for London, Rome or one of 20 other cities is now possible when you play the newest version of MONOPOLY. On August 20th, Hasbro, the makers of the world’s most popular board game announced the 22 cities elected by fans worldwide that will appear on the new MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition game board.

The 22 cities, listed in order of property groupings with the highest rent properties listed first, is as follows:

  1. Montreal
  2. Riga
  3. Cape Town
  4. Belgrade
  5. Paris
  6. Jerusalem
  7. Hong Kong
  8. Beijing
  9. London
  10. New York
  11. Sydney
  12. Vancouver
  13. Shanghai
  14. Rome
  15. Toronto
  16. Kyiv
  17. Istanbul
  18. Athens
  19. Barcelona
  20. Tokyo
  21. Taipei
  22. Gdynia

Other cool additions to the newest MONOPOLY game board include tokens, houses and hotels that reflect icons and styles from all seven continents and Chance and Community Chest cards that highlight events from countries around the world such as Carnival in Rio de Janeiro and a St. Patrick’s Day festival in Dublin.

Is your favorite city included on the new game board? I was pleased to see Tokyo on the list but was surprised to see that is is one of the lower rent properties. This is not very realistic as Tokyo is ranked as the second most expense city to live, second only to Moscow, according to Mercer’s 2008 Cost of Living Index.

MONOPOLY Here & Now: The World Edition will be available at stores in more than 50 countries and 37 different languages starting on August 26, 2008.
